2.10 What are the general characteristics of parallel-shaft gear motors?
A parallel-shaft gear motor/slip-on gear motor is very compact and easy to install. Flange, foot, and hollow shaft designs or combined designs are all possible. The parallel-shaft gear motors are manufactured in a modular design. The output flange and output shaft can be mounted on the standard design (hollow shaft drive) without any modifications. Parallel-shaft gear units have new mounting options, also for the input side. Standard connections such as IEC B14 or B5 or via the shaft drive are possible. Combinations with other gear unit types are also available with few modifications. When high efficiency and strength are crucial in the application, helical worm gear units are often no longer applicable. In such cases, parallel-shaft gear units are used. In addition, higher overhung loads can be supported here.
